Working Moms-are there any other kind?

Whomi makes products for busy women.  I have often wondered if that is a repetitious descriptor. I never wonder more than at this time of year, when there is so much to get done.  It feels particularly poignant  this year, when the shopping list may seem a bit more of a challenge than just running to the mall and whipping out the credit card. It’s not just business as usual. It’s certainly not Christmas as usual.

As a woman who created a company that sells family organizers , I am always thinking philospohically-as well as practically-about what it means to be a family organizer. It really means that-as we women all know-it is our job to keep the wheels turning, the balls in the air, all the parts connected. In flush times, we often rely on the aid of hired help, paid entertainment (video games, etc.) and -if we’re really lucky-some pampering for ourselves. When times are leaner, as they are now, that’s when we really  need to organize our families-and ourselves-to think creatively (what kind of holiday gifts can we make  this year?), support each other (to make sure it all gets done), make our own entertainment (snow ball fight anyone), give each other back rubs.

It’s true that a woman’s work is never done-and perhaps never more so than in times of adversity. But that’s when we really know what we’re made of. And what being a Working Mom is all about.
