3. Get Started on your Career Plan

 Whomi Blog

Whomi is built around your personal, private career plan that will walk you through the Continuous Career Advancement cycle. Access your career plan by clicking on the button at the top of your page.

Once you do that, you will see four simple steps that have helped everyone from people in their early careers to seasoned executives reach their next goal jobs.

Write down a draft set of priorities and a goal for your next career step in Step 1. Try it now! Here's an example:

Ultimately, you will want this to be precise. It could be something like:

  • Become a Director of Product Management in a Large Tech Firm
  • Become an HR Business Partner for a Startup
  • Launch my own Consulting business for Healthcare Providers

If you know exactly what you want, that's great! You are one of the lucky few!

If you are uncertain (as many people are!), that's ok too. For now, try writing something down like:

  • I want to figure out what to do next
  • I want to get a promotion and increase my compensation
  • I want more time back and flexibility with my job

We'll work on how to improve this in future emails.

Don't forget to hit "Save" when you are done. When you hit "Save" or "Completed" you will make a post that is only visible to your friends on Whomi (we call them your "Whomigos"). That way your trusted friends and advisors can see what you are doing and can offer help and support.

Great job adding your initial career goal! You are on your way!

Your Career Plan is only visible to your Trusted Advisors and friends on Whomi. Unlike other social networks where you broadcast all of your activities to lots of people, Whomi is focused on keeping your Career Plan between you and those you trust.

You will come back to this Career Plan many times over the next several months as you define and work to achieve your next career goal.

If you ever get stuck, click on the "(?)" next to each Career Plan step to learn more about the types of responses you should provide. More on this soon.

If you are a Mentor or Advisor, you can grow your impact by having all of your mentees write down their career goals on Whomi. You can then see the status of all of your mentees (who add you as their trusted friends) by scrolling through the Whomi home page. No more waiting 6 months for 45-minute mentoring sessions. If you spend a few minutes a week scanning your Whomi feed, you can help 5, 10, or 20 people all at once! Great for you, even better for them!

Next we'll talk about how to improve your goals with feedback.
